Judette M. Louis, M.D., M.P.H. is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Division of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at MetroHealth Medical Center, which is affiliated with Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. 

Dr. Louis received her Bachelor’s of Science in Biology from Seton Hall University before attending MCP Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia.  During that time, she also completed her Master’s of Public Health degree with a focus Environmental Health/Epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health in Baltimore, Maryland.  She subsequently went on to complete her Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at Case Western Reserve University/MetroHealth Medical Center and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.  Following her residency training, Dr. Louis went on to complete the Wayne State University/ NIH Perinatology Research Branch fellowship in Maternal-Fetal Medicine in the year 2007.

Dr. Louis’ clinical interests include critical care medicine in obstetrics with a particular interest in cardiopulmonary diseases.  Her research focus to date has been centered on infectious maternal morbidity and mortality.   She is interested in the changing epidemiology of health among reproductive age women and aims to identifying the areas in perinatal care which we can target to improve health.

Dr. Louis’ Physician Faculty Scholar project is entitled “Obstructive Sleep Apnea in Pregnancy: Development of a Cost-Effective Screening Tool, Epidemiology and Maternal/ Neonatal Morbidity.”  This study will utilize a high risk population to develop and validate a screening tool for obstructive sleep apnea in pregnancy.  The secondary goals of this project include beginning to estimate the prevalence of obstructive sleep apnea in a high-risk population with an emphasis on obese diabetic patients and to begin to estimate the impact of the disease process independent of other comorbid conditions on neonatal and maternal morbidity.  This study is intended to be a pilot study to provide information that can form the basis of further studies as well as establishing a cohort of patients with obstructive sleep apnea that can be followed over time.
